On the subject of acute myocardial infarctions, it is well established that women often present with different symptoms from men, and thus many heart attacks in women go unrecognized.

While men are likely to have a "hollywood heart attack" with a sudden onset of central crushing chest pain, nausea, sweatiness and dizzyness, women often have different symptoms which can go unrecognized as a "heart attack".

Women are much more likely to have neck, jaw, shoulder, upper back or upper belly (abdomen) discomfort, shortness of breath or pain in one or both arms when having a heart attack

I think this is a good example of how male centered media hurts people through misinformation.

Further, women are much less likely than men to get a EKG when seen in the prehospital environment, even when presenting with symptoms of myocardial ischemia. It is assumed that this is because many women have breasts and healthcare providers don't like exposing them to acquire an EKG, even through an EKG is one of the best tools to detect an MI in the prehospital environment.

So please ladies know the symptoms of a MI, and don't be afraid on insisting on getting an EKG, they are fast and cheap. I hope I didn't make anyone's health anxiety worse
