I can see the appeal of both, as long as you have some unmowed areas of the property, or cultivated flowers to feed pollinators. Mainly for kids and pets, you don't want them running through snakes and ticks and stuff.
What I don't get though is why some people feel it necessary to SCALP their lawns, like you can cut it longer... keep some of the shorter flowers and it doesn't look like shit.
