    Rational Wiki has its issues, but the Falun Gong entry is good, and has plenty of citations.

    JJ Mcculough used to have a great video on the Falun Gong calling them out as a cult. He's an anticommunist liberal, so he's a good source to convince China skeptics.

    Consult any Chinese embassy website in the USA. They have/had a whole section about them.

    They were never an issue until in 1998, I think, they massed like 10,000 people to pray outside the Zhongnanhai leadership compound in Beijing. This happened without the intelligence services detecting it and scared the bejeezus out of the CPC. All they had needed was to bring some ladders and sharpened bamboo staves and presto, no more CPC. After that, they got a lot of attention.
