Commodity fetishism is when the human element of trading for goods isn't taken into account, and both sides just see each other as numbers. As in, when you buy fruit from a store and have no idea who grew it. It's when we look past the social conditions of production and see only commodities.
This is more of reaffirming identity through consumption
