On the one hand, good for him. On the other hand this is similar to Vettel's environmentalism. Like the F1 championship is essentially an ad for many countries where it's illegal to be an lgbt person, so the gesture feels empty.

    He does address that point in his quote to be fair:

    the sport is going to be here whether I am or not

    Much like Vettel who admitted his position was hypocritical, but thought it was important to spend the last few years few years of his career, when he had the biggest microphone & most clout, advocating on climate change and other issues.

    Now obviously my heart isn't going to bleed for obscenely wealthy celebrities, but F1 is so archaic and tightly controlled by some of the most regressive capitalists on the planet that I think any pushback in that sphere is worth it.
