lol, not only is it real, but as far as chain restaurant hamburgers go, the fuddruckers burger ordering menu/logistical build was/is the unrivaled king of the burger empire imo. if you wanted to eat the bespoke burger that was going to kill you and no one else, this was the place where you could go to create hell from your own nightmares. i haven't been to one in easily 20 years, and i will never forget it. those memories stand out fresh even among the blurriest days of a greedy hog rooting around in the american trough.

you picked how much ground beef you want on the thing, ranging from 1/3rd lb up to 1 lb (LMAO), and then you pay $1 for added special ingredients (bacon, various cheeses, guacamole). they grille that shit up and then call you up when its ready. they give that to you on a fresh baked bun with a tray (and whatever other fried b.s. you wanted like tater tots, fries, etc) to the "toppings bar" where you are free to go completely insane with all the other condiments and toppings (onions, lettuce, sliced tomatoes... like unlimited amount of whatever other stuff a burger brain would imagine in their wildest dreams to put on their burger, in whatever quantity and configuration/layering they want.
