A South Carolina man, who survived being shot nine times by York County sheriff's deputies responding to a "wellness check" call about him being suicidal two years ago, claims in a recent lawsuit that he was talking with his mother in his pickup truck when officers approached them "like cowboys from a John Wayne movie."
That sheriff seems very experienced and proactive at smearing police victims in the press.
"Armed with a knife" = was wearing a sheathed knife, or had a folding knife in his pocket
"Violent felony" = property violence
"Pointed a shotgun at us" = we interrogated a mother in shock about the attempted murder of her son and herself that we had just done, and didn't get anything useful so we made this up entirely
"SLED investigation" = jargon so it sounds like I'm representing something more trustworthy than the same guy telling you all this other stuff, who will face no penalty at all for lying in this press statement
"Told the staff at the hospital that he tried to commit suicide by cop" = the sheriff really starting to riff on the story
