Oakville was set to receive $25 million under the Housing Accelerator Fund. It has already received $1.28 million, which the town said it will return to the federal government.
For those not familiar, Oakville's "town" status is more of a conceit by the locals than a reality. This isn't some quaint little picturesque friendly town with friendly locals. It's a huge sprawling suburban hellscape on the west side of the greater Toronto area. It's the kind of place that very wealthy people live when they hate the very concept of a city, but have to live within daily-commute distance of Toronto proper.
Of course it's Oakville. Wretched place.
