Anytime I start to feel slightly good about my future reality comes by to kick me in the nuts

I have not felt happy about anything in my real life in a lasting way for over 20 years now

Absolutely get a second opinion. Dentistry is probably the most scam-ridden profession. I have no respect for dentists whatsoever. Sadly your second opinion will also come from a dentist, so just go with your gut about which seems the least scammy.

The tooth itself literally broke off. X-ray is pretty nasty. I don't think he would scam me as he previously upgraded a crown he did that he didn't like the development of to a bridge without charging me.

Yeah, I've been dealing with a lot of dental stuff recently and based on that, i don't think that's too scammy of a price despite obviously being too damn high and bullshit that people have to come up with money like that for healthcare of any kind.

I have literally spent over $20,000 on dentistry over the years, I say over because I stopped counting a long time ago

If a flight to Mexico is feasible you could look into getting dental done there. Would probably be cheaper and you could squeeze in a short vacation.
