My communist friend, well, one of them, is VERY gung-ho about Brandon Johnson and he usually doesn't care about Democrats or Republicans.
Yeah, the dude used to be an abolitionist, was a shop steward, then union leadership. He's the real deal. The question is if he can maintain his integrity in the face if institutional pressure.
All that and then some; my friend is at least hoping he'll be an improvement and spur other people to be radicalized as well.
