It's been portrayed as a culture war issue, and had some banger articles come from it like "We should cut funding to the fight against the [far]-right instead of parent subsidies" from lib-respected chud media like WELT. Of course, the only people affected by this are those with a monthly income of 12500€ to 25000€ - not a progressive reform with say the goal of reducing inequality, but a rare case where the poor are not the ones affected by cuts - affecting only 0,5% of the population who can clearly afford whatever whim they want to subject their child to.
