The two will meet in December and I am legit hyped. They are two of my all time favorites.

Georges St. Pierre is arguably (its not arguable btw) the greatest mixed martial artists of all time. Through out his career is was widely considered the best "mma wrestler" and the most complete fighter. His takedowns are a thing of beauty.

Maia is kinda the opposite of GSP. He is a BJJ specialist. Call him one dimensional if you want. But he was so good with using his bjj he fought his way to the top of 2 ufc weight divisions. In the modern mma era that's crazy.

On paper Maia should be the favorite. In reality the ruleset will play a huge factor. Like if there are points for takedowns I would favor gsp straight up.

Also GSP is ridiculously competitive, even for a professional fighter. He is going to take this very seriously. Something most mma guys don't do for these grappling events.

Any word on what the actual modifications to the rules will be? Are they doing some stuff like whatever-the-hell-it-was where they allowed palm strikes or something?

Haven't seen yet. It's 100% grappling only for sure though. Gsp in any kind of actual fight would be the biggest ppv of the year.

The modified rules part will be mostly about scoring and other boring stuff.

This is pretty exciting. I've never gotten to watch GSP while he was still fighting, only ever get to see him in replays. I will definitely be tuning in
