Sulfur emissions into the air kept warming lower than it should have been due to thr "global dimming" effect. https://www.carbonbrief.org/analysis-how-low-sulphur-shipping-rules-are-affecting-global-warming/ So, I guess in a way geoengineering is already occurring... it's just really reckless and unmanaged.
