While abortion was not directly on the special election ballot, the result marks the latest setback for Republicans in a conservative-leaning state who favor imposing tough restrictions on the procedure.
That's a relief, I was expecting to go down swinging on that one, the Yes On Issue 1 people were spending stupid amounts of money and having all sorts of rallies about it, proud in the sun. I saw big banners in my town about it, you could feel the money.
Meanwhile, I'll never forget going, "psst, hey, did you hear about the special election?" to the one and only woman at my work who I was 90% certain wasn't a Trumper, getting her number, so I could email her some stuff about it, and it felt like a fucking drug deal. At one point, one of the other employees walked by, and I just stopped talking to her about it until they were out of earshot. That's how the fuck we do around here, if we vote Blue. I'm still not sure about her, either. I might have exposed myself like a fool, though it shouldn't matter much.
So yeah, I was not expecting the result, honestly. I guess the cities came through. When the whole state has to vote on it, you can't run your little gerrymander games like you want to.
Next is November, I hope they got their signatures.
