I found out about Hexbear today, and I don't want anything to do with any of their communities or anyone who chooses to be a part of it.

What can I do to make sure I don't need to ever remember that it exists?

    Have a look at available lemmy clients. Sync for example has a filter feature to block either an instance, a community or user straight from a post.
