      Yes, of course, but one does not need some sort of permission in China to travel outwards, only a visa from the destination country. At least in the Youtube comments it seems like China would prohibit anyone from leaving, which is certainly not the case.

      Actually you can visit China visa free if your are visiting for less than 14 days. I'm pretty sure the US is on that list of countries

        The U.S. is not on the list, and the US doesn't provide visa-free access to Chinese citizens except to the Northern Mariana Islands. Without applying for a visa, US citizens can visit visa-free for 144 hours transit or via the Hainan Visa-Free Program.

          Ah, fair dos. I thought the US might have been added along with that bunch of other Western countries as part of a recent push to encourage tourism to China
