The idea has gone viral in France: American discovers healthcare. “A lot of people are kind of making a joke about it,” she says. “Like, welcome to France.”

i would become an olympic athlete just for the healthcare. it's a joke here. no actual real human in their right mind thinks our system is superior or even acceptable anymore. the veil of propaganda has been torn for at least a decade at this point. polls repeatedly show even a majority of republicans are in favor of some big medicare-for-all program.

but we are not a democracy at all. and Finance, Insurance and Real Estate capital formations are the word of god, so the topic will never appear on the lips of presidential candidate ever again. we're more likely to get an anti-zionist in the white house than someone who will threaten the absolute cash cow of insurance or the incredible power that massive employers enjoy over their subjects due to insurance-employment job lock.

for you people in real countries:
i recently changed jobs and the no-shit, full freight of my premiums (without any part hiding behind "employer contribution" language) to the insurance company is over $700 a month. that's the price of just the premiums. you still gotta pay $10 to talk to some up jumped nurse, $50 to talk to specialist, $100 for the ER, > $100 for an ambo ride and more if you actually need some kind of intervention, equipment, medicine, or surgery. and god help you if you go to the other hospital and not the hospital that has an agreement with your insurance carrier.

and this is considered "decent" insurance, because it covers preventative and routine lab work every 6 months at no additional cost.
