Situated learning strikes me as the ideal environment to strengthen knowledge in a community that already has solidarity in a real, tangible goal. The sacrifice on a newbies end is the willingness to be humbled through interactions that build and build until it's finally easy for you to convey your knowledge in practice.
It's kind of like the complete opposite of being a liberal, reading one western news outlet on a topic, and then seeing yourself as the exceptional bearer of intellect on a subject.
