This is genuinely a huge factor in why Labour got stomped so hard in 2019, and bernie too - back in 2016/2017 the algorithm was basically neutral- it favoured 'natural shares' not promoted content. They saw this massively helped the left (like insanely so - most people had never been exposed to actual left wing ideas without liberal or right wing gatekeeping before), and turns out left wing ideas are super popular when presented on their own terms by people you know... They aren't making that mistake again,they'd been getting high on their own supply.
