"Watch the Irishman Suffer" is practically it's own genre of Star Trek episode. Chief O'Brien needs a break, he's just a regular dude who has witnessed his own death too many times.
The fact that he was a major plot point for the RedShirts book is one of my favorite things about that book. (Or rather, his "legally different because of copyright" Irish equivalent)

Even Keiko gets fed up with O'Brien. She yells at him all the time and then straight-up leaves for months at a time.
The only good Keiko episode is the one where she is possessed.
