Dog had an infection. We tried meds and a culture, but the culture wouldn't grow and the meds didn't work. Hit it with stronger anti-biotics and that worked. Kept him on them for like 2.5 months, waited a couple weeks, and now he has an infection again. Vet says the best option at this point is to go to a specialist who might be able to identify the infection better than they can, but that it will be expensive. We're already like 4k in the hole on this thing, which is already way outside our normal financial means.
Anyone had to do this sorta thing before, or have any idea what the cost might be? As usual these days google is fucking useless and no matter how I search, it just gives me generic vet prices.
I had to take a dog to a specialist dentist and it cost $2000 for the initial extraction and another $1500 for a "follow-up exam" that I think was just a scam to extract more money from me. Get the specialist's number, call for an estimate, ask what financing options they have. They do not publish their rates (because they're specialists) so this is the only way to know.
