Software-Defined Radio. Pretty cheap entry and fun to screw with. I recently moved to the sticks and now there is nothing to find, sadly.
Recently started writing niche essays on video games but haven't had the best time coming up with more ideas and have 0 ability to advertise my own work.
I also have this weird thing wear I take pictures of the cats on cat-product packaging because I'm afraid they'll be forgotten.
Actually, you are quite lucky with SDR, as there are many such stations on the Internet where you can tune in locally at that location and listen as if you are there. I operate one for listening to our local ham radio frequencies on VHF at https://openwebrx.gadgeteerza.co.za. But mine is very simple compared to some of the more complex one's available.
I like to just search for weird shit. You can find pirate radio, airplane comms, police radio, or just listen to weirdos talk to each other on short wave. I liked trying to tune in to far away regular stations too.
I want to get into short wave! I'm not licensed yet, but I've alwaysed had a plan to do so and set up an antennae if i ever get my own place.
if you're interested in searching for number stations (something thats really easy to do with shortwave SDR), check out priyom for schedules of the number stations

Oh huh, this seems cool. Excited to screw around with this new knowledge
I'm sure those cats would appreciate you looking out for their legacy.
I have an SDR and experimented a little with it. What do you do with it or suggest for a beginner?
Are you active in ham too? I'm interesting in long distance comma but haven't got the license required yet.
