Getting sober is a lifelong process for most people. I am a member of alcoholics anonymous, an incredible community but one that discourages talk about about politics (we don't want to alienate people based on their politicial views).
Having a space to talk about sobriety and how it relates to my political life is important for me, and probably is for other leftist who are trying to stay sober. I would like to see a community here where people can talk about their addiction, find help, and vent about being sober in left spaces. I don't know if anyone else here sees a need for that, but it would be a nice community to have in the future.
I like the name /c/CombatAlcoholism but don't like that it doesn't include other drugs and addictions.
C/sober sounds decent or c/CombatAddiction fits too. It seems important for people to be able to help each other through addiction issues in a leftist space when lots of addiction issues can be traced to the absolute capitalist hellscape we live in
I like CombatAddiction.
It's important to figure out how to operate in a capitalist world while staying sober. It's been a tough ride for me so far, but i keep going knowing that I'm personally of no use to the left if I'm constantly drunk.
Sounds like it's for people who are addicted to combat, which is an awesome addiction
Add to this that however helpful they may be to individuals, prevailing methods of treatment can be too judgemental or isolating for many leftists and GSM peeps, who are disproportionately sufferers of addiction and disproportionately users of this site. Plus there are no in-person meetings to go to during pandemic anyhow. There is a real need for a non AA space to disuss these issues rn
Unlike the also needed cat pic subcom this is a suggestion that has the potential to literally save someone's life. If you're still active I suggest you repost this since the site grown tenfold since you originally did, if not I intend to get real annoying around here
