I honestly think Linux distros need to start making KDE a first-class citizen and even considering it as the default desktop. It's incredibly powerful, lightweight, and friendly to Windows users. GNOME is so comparatively needlessly complex for basic behavior, to the extent that it feels almost user-hostile at times.
This week in KDE has always been a really great resource.
