I consider myself a marxist, but have long felt an attraction to anarchist theory. I've been very critical of how marxist states have acted. My wife is Chinese, and if you strip away the aesthetics of communism, China is much closer to a neoliberal fascist state than an actual workers state. One of the key factors that keeps me from becoming an anarchist is it seems very utopian. Many arguments I've read for how things like public safety will be handled end up just saying "don't worry, it'll work out." I'm not convinced by arguments that are utopian. So I want to learn what anarchist communities have looked like in practice. I want to know what anarchism, when it's achieved, actually looks like and how successful it is. Does anyone have any books or online resources to learn about anarchist societies like revolutionary Spain, or other places?
