i read a story a while back that the troops they stock at nuclear silos are typically 19 year old fuckups who get high at work, because the job of sitting in a chair all day long waiting for a call that will likely not come in is too boring for the higher-ups and the strivers and too morally questionable for the people who've been in the service for a few years already. can't find the link now but it honestly wouldn't surprise me if it were true
I'm no expert on this topic. And I assume it's probably right at least to a certain extent. Not everybody involved is the crème de la crème. Joe Blow - a 19 year-old fuck up working in a missile silo in South Dakota - decides Trump's "nuke Iran order is bogus" and not only does he refuse the order - he surreptitiously tweets about it. The war is averted but Blow ends up totally incommunicado in military prison for dozens years under a heretofore entirely unknown above top secret law. After the the trial - only the name of the law is made public.
Well, I think that's a fantasy. The people chosen were chosen for the loyalty and patriotism. They have an orders are orders mindset.
No, they don’t have that mindset (some do I guess) , I was in the military for years, that’s just not how it is.

That may be who most of the staff is but there is going to be some full bird waiting out his last couple years till retirement in charge.
