The Heat Initiative, formed to attack Apple encryption in the name of stopping child abuse, is part of a political dark-money network.

I wonder what the goal here is. Why would a private group be worried about the strength of phone encryption? Seems suspicious.

    Pretty good article (minus the "authoritarian governments" lines which seem to imply that billionaires trying to reduce encryption on behalf of the government isn't authoritarian). People should read the whole thing. Even has a paragraph mentioning Ashton Kutcher being tangentially related (lol).
