I have been lurking here for a bit, but created an account to post this. Chapo/Hexbear seems like a pretty neat platform. I'm glad there's finally a reddit alternative that isn't infested with nazi and or qanon shit.

Here are a couple questions I have regarding the survival of this site:

  1. Is federation still viable on this fork, like it is on Lemmy or say mastadon?
  2. For the main site, are there "backup plans" (e.g. domains at different registrars, backup hosting provider, backup CDN, etc) in case one of these companies decides to take this down? I imagine sav.com would take this down in a heartbeat if that day comes.

On a less related note, is Hexbear capable of scaling to, say 100k users in its current state? Or does work still need to be done in this respect?

Hopefully someone can answer my questions. Great site overall, devs.

I think it could manage it (server bandwitch or whatever aside, I just mean the way the site exists and is used), but I also hope there's more time before then, if the site were to blow up now/soon it would ingrain the many birthmarks resulting from the subreddit into the culture, we have time and ability while the site is small and malleable, but if/when it balloons that becomes immeasurably harder
