Just wanted to liven up the comm a bit with some discussion, anyway what's everybody opinion on the Platformism vs Synthesism Debate

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platformism

Platformism is a form of anarchist organization that seeks unity from its participants, having as a defining characteristic the idea that each platformist organization should include only people that are fully in agreement with core group ideas, rejecting people who disagree. It stresses the need for tightly organized anarchist organizations that are able to influence working class and peasant movements

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synthesis_anarchism

Synthesis anarchism, synthesist anarchism, synthesism or synthesis federations is a form of anarchist organization that seeks diversity upon its participants and tries to join anarchists of different tendencies under the principles of anarchism without adjectives.

I assume most here are anarcho communists, so would you form federations with mutualists and collectivists(if there's any left lol) or not?(this doesn't exclude temporary provisional alliances on single goals)

For baby anarchists

'anarcho'-capitalists are not anarchists so they aren't included in 'anarchists of different tendencies' in synthesism

i think this is less a matter of ideals and more of strategy

and strategy is difficult to generalize.

I have criticism of both; the former can lead to groupthink bullshit and exclusionary clubs, the latter reasonably extends to 'single issue campaigns' that ultimately mean stand for and if they endure, endure for literally nothing which make me sick

if I had to choose a direction; I'd lean to synthesis, because if you have to fall in line and shit, why even bother with anarchism? but I'm very very cautious about it. there's a difference between a nihilistically big tent for the purpose of making someone's dick look big, and an actual robust alliance/coalition.

I tend to fall more in the synthesis camp. As long as someone matches the core pillars/values I think there's room for variety in opinion or tactics.

Platformism movements (in my experience) always seem to end up driving people away. Especially with how dead the left is in much of the imperial core that's not someone we have time for. Lol
