Took about four or five months with just a tiny amount of mail order spawn and no real effort. May not be as tasty as some of the hardwood types (will know soon enough) but they are fucking huge. Gonna keep adding to the bed and move some of the spawn around till they’re growing all over my garden.

What do they taste like? Hoping I'll come across some in the next couple weeks 🤞

Wasn’t able to cook anything right away with them so just threw in the dehydrator for now. Will hopefully try in the next few days and report back.

That's awesome. Are the ones that spread on some kind of prepared substrate or do they just seem to be growing out of the ground?

4a/4b. Cold winters but hot summers that are frequently rather dry. Did a little bit of watering in the worst of the droughts but not much. Patch gets a lot of shade and it started as probably six to eight inches of wood chip and straw layers so it holds moisture pretty well even when it’s dry. Are you seeing mycelium forming? Dunno what sort of weather you’re getting but it could be that the cooler weather that just started here triggered the fruiting.

I’m a bit farther south it’s just now getting cool in earnest. I think I just need more time I only inoculated in august. Yours look great, how was the taste?

Maybe you’ll get a nice spring flush. Will report back on the taste in the next few days when I have a chance to cook some. Will be a first for me.
