It's really expensive to get into, everyone is a chud, and you'll break all your fingers. I just duel my friends with nerf swords now instead.
No, but I kind of plan to when they raise the all-clear about covid.
Unfortunately I'm not near any clubs, but I think it'd be fun for my friends to try and teach each other anyway. It's sword fighting, not like it's ever really going to matter if we're actually good or not. Unfortunately it's kind of an expensive hobby to buy into that way when you aren't okay with putting your mates in the hospital, so I dunno if we'll be able to.
Plus, with my uh, lifestyle, it's pretty likely that had I access to training swords, drug-fuelled duals might become a regular thing. That's maybe not advisable.
I was about to when covid lockdowns started and the local group seems to have dissipated.
Not quite what you're asking about, but I've been doing archery for years. I started for the same reason, it's a form of exercise I can somewhat stick with. I'd found an archery course -- basically a hiking trail through some hilly terrain with targets along the way -- which was nice while I lived there.
Just before the lockdown hit, I was thinking about looking for a nearby HEMA club, but I haven't tried it, yet.
HEMA's alright. I prefer modern olympic-style fencing though. Just check to see what clubs are in your area I'm sure there happy for new members once covid boils over.
