60's Superman was the deep end of the Silver age, where most of his comics were him going up against softball threats like The Trickster and Mr. Mxylptlk
Wouldn't be until the 70's when stuff started to get serious again, but then it was less radical and more "Look out Superman, Metallo and the Kryptonite Man are on a rampage!"
