  • I don't think Israel went full Sherlock Holmes and predicted the future about it being bad for the resistance. The PFLP and the communist factions in Gaza supported the operation. It's that Israel's prime minister doesn't want to go to jail so he needs to keep war going as long as possible - another leader would likely have pulled out months ago and not attacked Lebanon Iran and Syria. The craven bloodthirst of the Biden admin, unprecedented even for the United States, is what allowed the genocide(s) to continue for this long - as opposed to the cowardice of Iran giving them no backstop.

Hamas and Hezbollah are still in a relatively strong position, it's not time to doom because an incompetent unpopular regime got Afghanistan-ed.

Yes it's a very common take but I don't think it's correct. Bob basically makes this exact speech when arguing with Helen in the house, and then proceeds to nearly get his entire family killed to sate his own ego. Syndrome is literally a consequence of Bob's superiority complex not allowing him to treat a normal person with dignity.

  • I think that @plinky is right in that they clearly aren't Marxists, but I also think you have a "geopolitical" view of how states make decisions. While they are influenced by the idiosyncrasies of individuals, governments are effectively a tangled, writhing mass of competing class interests and the decisions made reflect this and nothing more.

Iran/China continually tries to achieve rapprochement with their mortal enemies not because of some rationalistic calculus (which would be incorrect anyway), but because there are capitalist interests that push them to do so. In the case of Iran under Khomeini they had more of a planned economy so those interests superseded this of mercantile businesses who would benefit greatly from removing sanctions. China is in a similar situation which was eroded by their integration into the global market.

Only a country like the DPRK can choose to pursue self-reliance via a socialist dictatorship, and this it was able to survive an apocalyptic crisis and become effectively impregnable to imperialism.

  • Except that the first united front led to the nationalists obliterating the communist side, and the second led to Mao learning from that and barely actually coordinating with the KMT and retaining their independence. Funny enough, that is more analagous to what the PCV's shift is than whatever argument you are making. Especially since the PSUV's response during this entire crisis has been to punch left as much as possible
