  • Without a doubt, there are many factors contributing to this. Some of the major ones in my mind are price (arena is cheaper than physical play, especially for rotating formats, combined with general increased cost to play making rotating formats much less appealing), and availability (arena is more convenient, especially for older players, and not many standard events in stores anymore).

Standard was also the defaco competitive format for spikes. With no major competitions that are accessible to the general player, even those players moved on.

  • This all sounded really exciting, right up until the end bit. Massive shake up to draft experience? Could go well if they build sets accordingly. More exciting cards per booster? Nice. But then they went and shit the bed by announcing the cost is going up to Set Booster prices, making draft even more expensive. Yeh, you lost me there, looks like this won’t be the thing that brings me back to in-person draft. Just a greedy grab, yet again.

  • I think something like simplelogin is too complicated for a basic user.

I suggest setting her up with two or three different new email addresses. One for important things like gov accounts, utilities accounts, and personal emails to friends, and the other for her to use to sign up to stupid data-harvesting crap like newsletters, stores, etc.

It would probably be helpful to do a little behavioural training too around not signing up for things that require your contact details like email or phone.
