  • Maybe I'm wrong but for the sake of trying to get you started down the right path until someone smarter than me answers for sure. I think you would need to configure a split tunnel on your device. Even then I don't think that would work either. I think that "casting" just tells the display the server address and it tracks down the stream info. Your casting device then just functions as a remote through the network.

So even if It could work, you're home network address would be compromised by the network traffic being sent to your display without a VPN.

Like another person has said, your best bet is more likely torrenting to Plex, Emby, Jellyfin then casting from your media server.

  • Yeah, I was on 0.0.50 from the play store, saw that the f-droid version had a faster update schedule in this thread, so I downloaded f-droid store and it forces an uninstall. So I uninstalled, reinstalled to 0.0.52 and after logging in, saw that issue. I checked the anonymous user profile to see if that also had issues and if maybe it was the Jerboa client, but didn't have any problems.

  • Thanks man! I think I'm going to let this setup sit for awhile before I do anything else to upgrade.

My hobbyist interests follow my fire making skills. I find a new and interesting hobby (kindling), then I do a little bit of research (stack twigs around the kindling), get started on this new hobby (use a match to light the kindling), discover just how deep the hobby can go(limbs and split logs), explore the advanced portions of this new hobby(toss the best looking wood onto my small fire in no semblance of order), be pleasantly surprised with my results(let the fire burn and go start a new one).

The next step is usually come back to a smoldering pit of ash and half-burned firewood, be annoyed, put the unburned wood in a pile, pour some diesel fuel over it, and flick a match onto it lol.
