While I agree that a degree of reasonableness was used by the judge in this case, it shouldn’t be discounted that he punched a student in the back of the head. He essentially coward punched the kid and as we know, a single punch to the back of the head can and has resulted in death. While I don’t think he should have been charged with nor convicted of Attempted Murder like others who have engaged in coward punching, the fact that his punch could have resulted in him killing the student shouldn’t be swept under the rug.
If he had punched the student in the chest, pushed them, kicked them away with his feet etc. I don’t think he should have been charged at all, but he specifically chose to use a closed fist to the back of a person’s head. That’s not self-defence, nor is it reasonable behaviour under any circumstances. We shouldn’t ever excuse a person’s choice to use potentially lethal violence.
Well the good news is it’s neither a Redback nor a Funnel Web Spider, so it’s extremely unlikely to have a serious effect if you’re bitten. I can’t tell exactly what it is, but it’s not a deadly spider. You can use a stick and ice-cream container to get it off and reposition the spider in your yard. If you want to prevent spiders from nesting on your bike again, use a residual crawling bug spray (you can find these at Bunnings or Colesworth) every six months or so in the affected areas. That should keep them at bay.
My wife and I took part in the survey as people who aren’t in programming and have never used LLM art generators before, and we scored quite poorly. I got all of the photorealistic images correct, but the painting/drawing pictures were much more difficult.
I think a better test would be to give four real artists and five LLM art generators the same prompt, show all nine of those together in a square and you have to pick the real ones. Then we’re comparing like-for-like as opposed to trying to spot an LLM image out of the blue.
Cat owner and avid environmentalist here: totally agree. I’ve always kept my cats inside for the obvious environmental reasons, but ask any vet and they’ll tell you that indoor cats lead much longer, healthier lives.
We need to start treating dogs and cats the same way - if there’s a cat around without it’s owner and it’s not leashed, it goes to the pound. $250 fee to retrieve your cat to pay for boarding and also donate to the pound that receives them. If people had to pay $250 and drive all the way to the pound to pick up their cat every time they let them out, I can tell you that outdoor cat owners will go one of two ways: they’ll either stop owning cats (big win) or they’ll keep them inside (also big win).
Oh God, please don’t remind of the old Beetroot claiming that somehow the Greens, who have never held power outside of ACT, were responsible for this shit. What a disaster of a human being.
If the news about LK-99 has any element of truth to it, then superconductor-based technologies and maglev transport will become much more affordable in the future.
Honestly I thought that it was more bare-bones than, say Fallout, because this was Obsidian’s attempt at a large-scale RPG without the backing of a big time publisher like Bethesda, LucasArts, Ubisoft etc. I had no idea that it was purposefully made more shallow to cater to more casual players.
I didn’t know that there were monotremes outside of Australia and PNG! Thanks for this, I learned something new today.
