Zero so far because I mostly use this laptop for trying new distros and it has barely ever left my house. If I did take it outside it would be extremely unlikely for anybody to mention it because I doubt many people in my town even know what a text editor is, let alone GNU nano.

You are correct, most people are using devices that will not work with any custom ROM or GNU/Linux distro. At least if you are searching for a new phone there are plenty of options (as long as you plan on installing LineageOS, other custom ROM's like Calyx and Graphene have a long way to go). Let's just hope device support improves in the future.

The best part about Android is choice, there are plenty of de-corporatised, bloatware free, open source and privacy friendly ROMS to choose from. And I disagree with the idea that degoogleing android is near impossible, installing a privacy friendly custom ROM is relatively easy and there are plenty of simple to follow guides out there. Plus device support is only getting better and better with LineageOS supporting a huge amount of devices. It's also not true that there is no real alternative to Android other than iOS, there are multiple mobile GNU/Linux distros that you can install on your phone, some companies even sell phones with GNU/Linux preinstalled. Overall, most of the time Android is bad because most android users are using a version of Android with proprietary spyware and bloatware installed, but it can be great.

CalyxOS seems to support some motarola phones and two fair phones https://calyxos.org/docs/guide/device-support/. LineageOS seems to support a wide array of devices (including some from the Chinese brand Xiaomi) https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/. However GrapheneOS only supports pixels https://grapheneos.org/faq. You could always just buy a pixel second hand if you don't want to support google. WeChat should work on all of these ROM's as they are just modified android.

That's not the only way, you could install a de-googled android ROM like LineageOS, CalyxOS or GrapheneOS.

From the context of the video this was commented on I think they believe that because android gives users more freedom and iOS is more locked down iOS is communist because communism=no freedom. They may also think that iOS is communist because the user experience is always the same instead of varying greatly like android and communism=everybody is the same. Either way this person has no idea what communism is.
