  • look, it's not about the fact that you'll never be successful. It's about the right that you have to do it. But also, the employer has the right to counter your request for a wage increase by firing you to hire someone who will, out of desperation, accept less pay. But it's important that these rights remain intact, because rights are good. How do you not get this?

I think what I learned from this part and mentioning how many decades they watched TV for, is that they watch a lot of TV. What fucking ads is he talking about lol? imagine paying attention to TV ads.

  • A little tangential, but I see this a lot in the “infosec” community. There’s so much emphasis on sales and marketing and buzzwords (I imagine this is common in across the entire capitalist landscape), and actually keeping networks safe is an after thought at best and completely ignored at worst. Sales staff exist to convince companies to buy something regardless of their need for it. Development is driven by perception of value not actual value. Those of us that actually find network defense interesting basically have to just stick to skunkworks. Half the time you could get more value out of a fucking python script.

  • This is the exact response I get. Had a friend saying “bring on the meteor” because nothing can be done. When I tried to segue into what can and needs to be done it’s poo pooed because communism bad. Then it becomes a blue no matter who harm reduction conversation... when the conversation literally started with “we’re doomed”.

yeah, it took me a bit to realize that was supposed to be a bad thing. Seriously, who wants an HOA other than people who like to fantasize about home equity
