  • Good post. I would also add though that while pseudononymous sites like 4chan often are prone to liars and trolls one advantage they do have over reputation based systems is that there is no reputation. Having no reputation system means that users are more free to experiment with different ideas and try arguing different viewpoints without worrying about what people will say about them. One issue with reputation based sites is a possibly greater tendency towards fostering dogmatism and also the egocentrisity, even narcissism and interpersonal drama that every user is exposed to. In the case of 4chan older users may remember a time when most of the users on /pol/ and the rest of the site were vaguely "libertarian" and "leftist", somewhat similar to the occupy wallstreet atmosphere. I believe the main problem it faced that really killed the site was the decidely non "free" organized raiding of the site by vanguard, stormfront, and other white supremacist sites that sought to impose their ideology through a combination of scripting and dedicated real users. There is also evidence of involvement in the raid campaign by none other then the fbi whom frequently is involved with white supremacist sites, but that's another story for another time. The unwillingness of moderators on 4chan to combat the influx of raids from white supremacist forums was it's downfall. That being said all mediums are prone to astroturfing and bad faith actors.

IMO: Liberal idealist that is able to recognize various problems of society but fails to connect them to each other or provide a framework for understanding why they happen. If he was capable of explaining through a universal materialist framework why these phenomena came to be and how they might be overcome then he would not be permitted the platform to share his content publically.

  • Thank you. Glad to know that I'm the problem for upsetting a mod and just need to suck up a bit more : ) I have been a moderator on leftist forums with a comparable size to to this site for 3 years and never been this passive aggressive or arbitrary to users. This does not seem to me to be productive or responsible behaviour from a moderation team. The only reason I am bothering to defend myself here is because I had a lot of fun talking to people in the short period of time before I was banned and we all ostensibly have similar values and political goals. I even thought that with the lower restrictions on the ability to post like no post timers etc and lack of anti-leftist reddit policy that this could be a decent alternative to a reddit style site. It is pretty funny I am expected to grovel here in the quarantine to even have the possibilty of getting a reason as to why I was banned before I'm banned again.

    Kind regards, downvoteme

  • Pretty funny how you had the time to instantly ban me and delete all my posts for arguing that workers in the imperial core are also exploited through the system of imperialism and it is in their own material interest to have solidarity with the imperial periphery. You had the time to instantly reply to my post asking why I was banned for this and telling me that's not what I said, instantly locking the thread.

And now you expect me to wait until your highness graces me with their presence. It would be less passive aggresive just to tell me to buzz off. I am not trying to be passive aggressive myself or to have unecessary conflict. Ostensibly we are leftists, perhaps even all communists. We must share many of the same political goals then. So I don't understand why I recieved this response. I don't want to believe it's only power tripping.

If you put yourself in my shoes here, which you should be capable of doing since you are the one in the position of power over this conversation and are not threatened at all. Can you not see how this is frustrating and makes me not want to contribute to this site again? Perhaps other people you would have a better impression of would have a similar experience? You can just delete this comment without anyone ever seeing it so I think the least you could do if you are likewise acting in good faith is to give me an honest reply.
