  • I'm kinda curious what they even expect to happen. Like if Matt is right about the hope for a labor base for the US left coming from these big warehouses and he broadly seems to be then it's just game over. Whatever other disagreements people have it's just not credible to alienate actual black unionization in vital industries for, I dunno even know, kudos from bored post grads?

It really sucks how sports talk absorbs all these bitter dudes who care enough to devote their lives to sports but were never good enough to actually play and never had the insight to work for any team or even run a decent fan site.

It's the exact same vibe as the chuds who never joined the military and still buy infidel patches off of amazon to go get geared up and protect the local arbys from antifa.

  • The ban wouldn't get rid of it. It would just end up effectively restricting development of the technology to intelligence agencies and corporations instead of it floating around in the public. The activist are not forcing lawmakers to care(lol), the ruling class recognizes that there is an advantage to establishing a monopoly on fakes in a medium everyone still views as legitimate.

  • This reminds me of the 538 stream right before the election where they are talking about what the Biden admin is actually going to do. One guy tries to talk about how all the Bernie stuff is done with because he got defeated and he's giddy about that, and it just doesn't get traction with the other people on there. These are all neoliberals, but they just kind of shrug and say "Well, probably healthcare or something" because what else are you going to do? It stuck with me because normally on anything that had a leftist they immediately would launch into a bunch of stock responses, but since it is all team blue people you just get a gnawing discomfort at the giant hole in the center of the political project.

Maybe this what levers Democrats full on into the technocrat stuff and while the Republicans do some variant of the wall the Dems will play out the monorail episode of the Simpsons every cycle.
