  • A few thoughts on the situation in Ukraine:

    • Russia's winter power grid bombing campaign has begun (obviously)
    • Ballistic missiles (Iskanders and Kinzhals) are being used freely to suppress and destroy Ukraine's air defenses, keeping the way clear at all times in case more cruise missiles need to be launched, which will target the power grid
    • They are carefully hitting substations to force Ukraine to turn off their nuclear power plants without triggering a meltdown
    • The unusual use of Tu-160 strategic bombers a few days ago shows that Russia considers this operation extremely important
    • If Russia succeeds in disabling the nuclear power plants, it's over for Ukraine

This seems to be a potentially war-ending gambit. In the chaos of a complete blackout in eastern Ukraine, coupled with angry civilians without heat, and low morale among Ukrainian soldiers, many more options become available for Russia. Biden's unhinged escalations could be less about forcing Trump to continue the war, and more about preventing a total collapse until it's Trump's problem.

It's "pay as you go", so you have to be careful to stay within the free tier or else you will get charged.

Mainly just try to avoid creating extra instances, or adding too much storage.

Oracle Cloud's free tier is pretty sweet. You can make an ARM instance with 4 cores and 24GB of RAM.

They reserve resources for paid accounts, so you may need to put in a credit card to actually get one. If you're careful you'll never have to pay a dime.

  • Again, Putin didn't mince words or use vague language this time. He said long range strikes with Western weapons would mean war with NATO. Maria Zakharova and Dmitry Peskov have since pointed to that statement as Russia's current stance.

It's not about victory in the Ukraine war, but rather deterrence between great powers.

Personally, I think Russia should have drawn clear red lines much earlier, and followed through with severe, shocking responses immediately, as it's the only language neocons understand. That said, I think this red line is real. The response may be underwhelming, but I bet there will be something.
