  • You might very well be right. Circlejerk comms are fundamentally parasitic & reactive, designed around feeding off the "main" comm. They can be fun to participate in (I used to enjoy TMOR, but it got old as they all do), but the model is not constructive. Like, once you've launched the thousandth dunk on "gamers are mad there are less boobs", the only thing that's next is the 1,001st dunk.

  • There's like one good circlejerk* community on Reddit, gcj. And even that one gets old pretty quickly.

More insular communities generate more tiresome people. Aka the whole "started as satire but becomes the reality" problem of the internet.

Also, I think your last line is pretty perceptive - no one was prepared for one of the most out of left field types of sectarianism/divisiveness imaginable. It's so stereotypical (vegans vs folks who eat meat) that I don't think anyone here expected it, because it's so prosaic.

Having said that, the decision to be a lifeboat for VCJ was so incredibly ill thought out & managed that the long term viability of hexbear is doubtful. The specifics of it being VCJ are much less important than what it revealed about decision making, or lack thereof, here.

*I'm sure there's more than gcj, I just don't know of the others.

  • I live in a rural area, and it's reversed in this scenario. People here will go camping and hunting for a week, but they'll be terrified the shitass "town" 15 miles away will be attacked by antifa/BLM/Muslims.

Basically, they'll always be scared, just the specifics change.
