  • Oh, I'm not asking for additional evidence -- I'm just applauding the recognition that "abstract, vague and wide-sweeping claims" are bad. Pointing to something in particular and making a specific argument about it is how we should handle these sorts of issues. If that's the standard, wrecking (intentionally or unintentionally) becomes much harder, and issues raised in good faith can be discussed sooner and more productively.

Anyone know where a comrade can watch this for free?

On Snyder, I can't help but hear the "all these Marvel movies are the same" criticism when people rip on the guy. We want directors to try to do something new with oversaturated genres, so we shouldn't shit on them too much if they try something new and you don't like it (and plenty of people do like it).

  • You're right that people America is bombing and starving should take precedence over Americans getting free college, but absent a cataclysmic nuclear war, the only way to shut down the imperial machine is from the inside. That's going to require some form of mass political movement. I don't think it's possible to build one of those around dismantling empire (something that goes far beyond opposition to a particular war, or opposition to the scale of military spending).

I do think it's possible to build a mass movement around education and healthcare, and I think that movement can be a stepping stone to an anti-imperial movement.

  • I’ve said that the Trump-is-a-Poopy-Head/Cheeto Mussolini genre of art that flourished in this time period is going to have the shelf life of Taco Bell leftovers. I don’t think a Beeple work like, say, Trump Dominating Covid from October 2020 is going to age that much more gracefully than Stephen Colbert’s “A Very Mueller Christmas” cartoon special or any one of Saturday Night Live’s many flaccid Resistance japes.
