That doesn't even make sense. Switch game cards are way smaller than any optical disc, but the game cases aren't. And there are already CD cases/bags where you can store 100 or more discs in a relatively small space if you're ready to ditch the cases.
I didn't use gnome recently, but does the screenshot from the article even reflect vanilla gnome? Doesn't look like the default gnome shell for me?
I feel that:
There are two attitudes on display here which I see in a lot of software folks. First, that CPU speed is infinite and one shouldn't worry about CPU optimization. And second, that gigantic speedups from hardware should be expected and the only reason hardware engineers wouldn't achieve them is due to spectacular incompetence, so the slow software should be blamed on hardware engineers, not software engineers.
I don't think that's possible.
