SO's boss is meant to be heading over for the ranfurly shield game tomorrow and was suffering jokes yesterday about the ferries getting cancelled. It's definitely not the most reliable mode of transport lately.

Yeah, I feel for the couriers today, ducking in and out of warm buildings and cold winds.
Somehow the sun is out but it's not a very nice day. I'm on my own in the office and regretting the fact I could have lugged my Bluetooth speaker to work for a Spotify day. Still, could be worse.
Happy monday!
I would try different things to see what I liked but I always came back to Fedora. I haven't heard of Nobara but I like the sound of it; it looks like it bundles all the stuff I usually install the moment the DE is up and running.
Windows in a VM is a good idea but the way I distro-hop I should probably start with it the other way around. What is your main distro of choice?
That happens every time I make pikelets.
The Adobe suite for work and the Affinity suite for myself. I use scrivener too but I'm sure I've seen open source alternatives for that and it keeps everything buried in rtf if I get stuck.
I know there are open source graphics programs available but affinity is the best I've used (much better than Adobe) and the forum posts Ive seen about Wine aren't encouraging.
Honestly, I think being on Lemmy is what put the idea back into my head in the first place. I have a permanent case of grass-is-always-greener so whatever I'm using, I want to be using something else.

Tinkering with alternative software used to be my main hobby but these days I just want stuff that works so have drifted away from it a bit.
I'm still toying with the idea of replacing my OS with linux, in spite of knowing it's a Bad Idea (because of software compatibility). Wouldn't it be nice if companies you pay money to were a little open to the idea of creating flatpaks?
The nice thing about frosty mornings is the beautiful day you get after one. And it seems to make the midmorning coffee that much nicer.
Hope everyone is having a good week so far.
Good for you, hopefully they get a lot of feedback like that and give up on the idea.
Already at work but the sun is out and it's not freezing so mood is good. This morning I made a goal list for the week, just a couple of things to try and keep in mind so I'll see how that goes.
Thanks for that link, that is definitely going to come in handy!
How is it only 1.7° at 9am? Although it looks like it's going to be a beautiful day. There may be a trip to the flea market this morning to see about fresh veges but other than that, no real plans.
What's everyone up to today?
I hate that farmers seem to think the only options are dairy or forestry, or in my area, grapes. No one seems to grasp that a monoculture in any particular is a bad idea and if it goes belly-up, the way dairy is going to, there's nothing to fall back on. With food supplies getting a little shaky you'd think there'd be a push to start growing more stuff locally so we have less reliance on other countries and on shipping, but I guess planting out crops means Fonterra won't be funding next years' Ford Ranger purchase.
Yeah, I was gifted a raised garden made from a pallet but it only a week for the local wildlife to move in. Herbs are a good idea though, I should try that to ease back into it.
Just wait, the moment it hits 26 in December I'll be bitching about that too 😁
Didn't John Key's favourite turn out to resemble the ISIS flag a little too much?
I think there were some interesting options submitted but the Powers That Be selected some pretty dull ones for everyone to vote on.
