        My coworker got sent to the hospital because he defrosted the windows on his truck by throwing a bucket of boiling water on it, and ended up slipping on the ice he made.

        I did use hot water to thaw my car, which was encased in a sheet of ice after an overnight freeze.

        Only after the fact did I discover what a horribly stupid idea that was, as I risked cracking the windshield with the sudden region-specific heat expansion. Didn't happen that time, but only because I was lucky.
