My coworker got sent to the hospital because he defrosted the windows on his truck by throwing a bucket of boiling water on it, and ended up slipping on the ice he made.
I did use hot water to thaw my car, which was encased in a sheet of ice after an overnight freeze.
Only after the fact did I discover what a horribly stupid idea that was, as I risked cracking the windshield with the sudden region-specific heat expansion. Didn't happen that time, but only because I was lucky.
The real answer is to mix enough radioactive material in the pavement that it never freezes.

If the ground is cool enough that the snow isn’t melting, there’s already enough of a deficit of heat in the ground that the water, even if it’s pretty hot, isn’t going to have enough heat in it to thaw the ground as well as the snow. So even if the individual water crystals in the snow melt, the water will end up as a sheet of ice when the heat it in gets transferred into the ground.
For anyone who hasn’t lived in an area that’s historically had regular snowfall at this point in the year, the first few snowfalls don’t “stick” specifically because the ground is still cooling down. So the first day with snow on the ground is rarely the first day with snowfall.
People have degrees in taking care of sports field grass because it actually takes a lot of knowledge.

It might've worked with salt water, but that would kill the grass most likely. Stadiums in places that have winter have giant heatlamps but I'm guessing they wouldn't have those because they probably don't have winter.
It's the classic southern problem of having to close everything for a tiny amount of snow because no one has any equipment to deal with it. I'm guessing the game wouldn't be able to be played even if they didn't make an ice rink.

Whenever a heat pump's outdoor unit freezes over, rinsing it out with the garden hose is the best way to get the fins thawed out. Not a good idea to water a field to thaw it out, though lol.
