I was turning cartwheels in the street when I got a $30,000 life insurance settlement after my father passed. I would do some truly heinous shit just for the opportunity to lay my hands on 250 grand.
30k would solve almost all of my problems.
It allowed me to settle my dad's affairs and not work for a while, which is about the best outcome I could've hoped for. I'm down to like $11.5K right now, and I really should be looking for another job, but two and a half straight years of busting your back for peanuts in a warehouse will tend to make you reluctant to reenter the job market.
I spent about a year at an Amazon warehouse and have been kind of under employed since. Someone was trying to tell me yesterday that that kind of suffering builds character but I think it just made me a little more mean.
Oh, I believe it, it didn't do me any favors either. Played hell with my ADHD and depression, drove me to drink even more than I already was, and it certainly didn't do any good for my back. Granted, it taught me a few useful skills, but it definitely wasn't worth it on the whole. Anybody who thinks this shit builds character has either never worked a truly soul crushing job before, is thoroughly cucked, or is in total denial as a coping mechanism. I worked with one guy there who fit that last one to a T.
