O hear the phrase tossed around in arguments, but what is the theory?

Is there actually a well-defined theory with a specific canon or is it a vague/disputed term?

      Edit: after giving it more thought, I suppose one of my questions is: IS THERE such a theoretical school? Or is it just gibberish that doesn't exist like 'Cultural Marxism'?

        summarizing the thread:

        critical theory is real and it can be applied to race

        the people whining about it don't know that or anything else about it and in that context it's a just a boogeyman.
