We've got a bunch of new people now so let's bring back a classic post. What low stakes conspiracy theory do you believe that you cannot prove but feels right to you?

I'll start: I believe that dating apps have made a concerted effort to smear in person meeting people and tie it to being "creepy" through social media so you are forced to meet people online(which was the creepy option just 15 years ago)

Lie detectors exist and work with high accuracy. The smear against them in media and academia is to stop the public from trying to use them on our leaders.

you know with MKULTRA having been a thing that happened it doesn't seem impossible that American agencies have something close to that or are working on something to do that

they don't need it. despite the name, "intelligence" services are less about collecting, compiling, and verifying information than they are about creating narratives that make the world conceivable to the masters of empire. MKULTRA was a waste of money but it was pursued because we wanted to believe it was possible. torture has been repeatedly shown not to work, but it was of critical importance to the war on terror. and now we're having hearings over Havana Syndrome and UFOs because the spies can't accept that they're in the post-post-game, they unlocked all the achievements, and there's nothing left to do.
